In yin yoga poses are held for several minutes with the optional support of props.

Yin is a branch of yoga that infuses Haṭha yoga with Daoist principles. It is a simple, but often challenging practice involving longer holds in key poses that strengthen the skeletal system. Yin accomplishes this through the judicious application of stress to the ligaments and tendons, which do not respond to strength training or cardiovascular engagement. It was developed to counterbalance the yang focus of martial arts, and that carries over to other forms of physical activity, whether they occur at the gym, studio, or work. Yin is a quiet, meditative experience. It’s perfect for anyone seeking balance in their exercise routine, or in the frenzied pace of modern life.

Rusty Lafountain

Rusty is a native son to our sleepy hamlet of Plattsburgh, and an eternal student of yoga. As many of us do, he turned to yoga later in life, in search of a balm to hurried and fluctuating nature of the modern experience. Rusty believes yoga has something to teach everyone—from getting out of our head, to feeling at home in our own skin. He offers classes that focus on the beauty and grace of simple movement, practicing yoga asana as meditation in motion, where all souls are welcome and all expression is valid.

Trained and certified by the Garnet Heart Yoga School, RYT 500.
